Steven Mueller and Lauryn

Steven Mueller recently reached out to us about some updates in his life. We know that you love meeting people who experience multiple sclerosis just like you. And when there are new updates in their lives, we are excited to share them with you. We are sure you will be happy to learn what's been happening with him, so read on!

Steven Mueller - Updates!!

Steven Mueller and Lauryn 2

Question#1: Since we last interviewed you, a lot has changed in your life. Can you tell us a little about you and your new wife? Also, what kind of projects you are working on now that you would like our readers to know about.

Everything has changed for me, since our last interview. I was very blessed to meet my wife, Lauryn, and we married in Nairobi, Kenya, on July 14, 2022. For the last several years, I’ve taken a hiatus from work and the entertainment industry, in order to focus on building my new life with Lauryn. So, I don’t have any current projects in the works, but as soon as my wife is able to join me here in the States we plan to revive my earlier business, together.

Question #2: We know that you were born here and your wife is from Kenya. How did you happen to meet when she is on the other side of the world? Does this have any influence on the work you do now?

Lauryn and I actually met on a dating website online, after my ex-wife abandoned and divorced me, which she did when my illness progressed a bit back in 2016. Lauryn and I got to know each other quite well before even meeting for the first time. When I traveled there initially and we spent time together, I knew almost immediately that I had met my soulmate; she is someone who loves me unconditionally and doesn’t think any less of me because of my illness. In fact, she admires my strength in dealing with it; she is my partner in every way, and has become the one person I love and trust with all my heart.

She’s considerably younger than I am, but we have both faced adversity in our lives, albeit in different ways. We’ve made the firm decision to undertake the journey of life together, and to share the good, the bad, and whatever fate throws at us, in every way. My home is wherever she is. And I truly mean that with all my heart. And the best part? She feels the same way about me. We are truly blessed to have found each other.

Question #3: We learned about how you were diagnosed in your first interview. Can you share a little about that again, and update us on what’s happening now?

I was first diagnosed with RRMS in 2011 and when my diagnosis shifted to PPMS in 2016, that's when my ex chose to abandon me. I was devastated at that time, but in hindsight, God works in mysterious ways. Now, I thank God for that having happened, because it was the catalyst that led me to the love of my life, my beautiful wife, Lauryn.

Question #4: You recently married in Nairobi and we will share the video here. Do you still live there or do you have plans to move back to the states?

Currently, Lauryn and I are unfortunately apart, because we are pursuing her immigration case the legal way. It’s very time-consuming, and incredibly difficult to be missing each other and to be so far apart. However, we’re currently pursuing her immigration case. I’m currently in the process of selling my home. Hopefully Lauryn will be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. later this year. And in a worst case scenario, I would give up everything and move to Kenya, in order to be with her, if that were ever necessary.

We love each other and are absolutely determined to spend our lives together. And also, sadly, my mother passed away at the beginning of January. She was the only family I had left - so Lauryn is all I have and love in this world. She is my hope and my joy and the light of my life. In short, she is my everything, and I will do whatever is necessary in order to be with her. And again, the feeling is a mutual one, and I consider myself so blessed to have found her.

Question #5: Do you still have challenges as a person living with PPMS? Your wife seems to be very supportive. Can you share how she helps you deal with those challenges?

I have constant, daily challenges. But I have managed to truly adapt and manage on my own. Heck, I’ve traveled to Kenya and back by myself, more than once. For a person with PPMS, that in and of itself is a challenge every time. But, as I say, nothing will keep me from the woman I love.

Question #6: Do you mind sharing your treatments with us again? Have you changed any of them, and looking back, do you feel that they have been good for you? What changes, if any, have you made?

Honestly, I still take a once weekly injection of Avonex. My neurologist and I aren't exactly sure if it helps, but I do it nevertheless, just to be cautious. I also take vitamins daily, try to avoid stress as best I can, and eat healthy. While my condition has not improved, it also has not worsened. Things have been stable and I’m thankful for that.

Question #7: As you know from your first interview, I am my husband's caregiver. Having a supportive spouse or partner is so important when it comes to dealing with a chronic illness. You mentioned that Lola is there for you in spite of your MS. Can you share more about your relationship?

She is incredibly supportive. She not only assists me physically when I need it - when we are together - but she is a constant source of joy to me, emotionally and I think the importance of that cannot be underestimated. She is my lover, my confidant, and my best friend. I cannot emphasize how much her being in my life has brought me hope and changed my life for the better.

Question #8: Treatment in the US is sometimes not that easy. Have you been able to receive adequate treatment overseas? Would you mind sharing a little about your experience?

I have not (yet) received any treatment overseas. Kenya, particularly Nairobi, has some good hospitals, but they are quite costly and the sort of care there is not comparable to the U.S. In particular, I feel very badly for poor people there, as they are usually denied treatment for just about everything. If they are unable to pay for it, they are denied treatment plain and simple. Hopefully one day, perhaps my wife and I will be in a position to start some type of charity organization there, in order to help economically disadvantaged Kenyans to receive adequate healthcare.

Question #9: Is there anything else you would like to share with our Visitors? Has the travel company that you wished to start come into being?

Not yet, but it’s funny you mention that. My wife and I are toying with the idea of hopefully starting a small travel company within Kenya, in the near future. For example, one that helps guide foreign tourists on various safaris and to visit some of the amazing natural wonders that the country has to offer. That’s a big industry in Kenya and, with my love of travel and adventure, I think it would be a perfect fit.
