Laurie Elyse

Spring 2009 NYC Fashion Week

Spring 2009 NYC Fashion Week

I first heard of this designer/artist in NYC a few years back and have seen her evolve. Laurie was diagnosed with MS in October of 2007 and as part of every collection creates pieces with profits that go to MS research. She works with other non for profits as well as music companies. Recently I saw her stuff in a ton of magazines and am a huge fan.

The Wikipedia page about her says:

"Laurie Elyse born in Virginia is an American fashion designer and artist. Her brand Laurie Elyse Collection is under the label Laurie Elyse Design, which is a member of NAMM. After attending The Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. she moved to New York City in 2003 to attend The School of Visual Arts when she began constructing one of kind chandeliers and functional furniture out of broken/new/used parts from instruments as well as drumsticks and guitar picks.citation needed

She has built many chandeliers for auction and has helped raise money for charities such as The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation.1 While attending The School of Visual Arts she was written up in the February 2007 issue of Hustler Magazine for her M16 Vibrator, which was banned from a NYC gallery show. After outcry of censorship it was displayed behind a wall.2"

"Her first product manufactured was her take on guitar pick bracelets and charm bracelets that are now available in stores throughout the USA and selected cities around the globe. The largest chain to carry her guitar pick bracelets remains the Music & Arts Center owned by The Guitar Center."

"The bracelets a have been featured in magazines such as Revolver (magazine) (most recently in the holiday gift guide issue dated January 2009) and seen on wrists of musicians and models alike such as members of Bile (band), My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Flash Bathory, Shira Girl, TAT, The Casualties, Nothingface, Dragonforce, Downfall, Monster Magnet, Mistress Juliya (aka Juliya Chernetsky), and more. 3"

"Her runway debut was part of New York Fashion Week during the Spring 2009 shows in September 2008. Christian Magazine Mark 5414, as well as the Ukrainian Television show The Algebra of Fashion5 both covered the show with positive reviews."

"Elyse's swimwear was featured in Alternative Press's Summer Style section in the June 2009 issue.6"
